Butler County Regional Hazmat

Butler County enjoys a divergent cross-section of industry that includes polymer, metal chemical, agriculture, and manufacturing. Each of these industries utilizes its own special chemicals as raw materials, which are used in the production process. All facets of industry carry the potential for concern of a hazardous materials incident. Prepared to meet this need is the Type-1 Butler County Regional Hazardous Materials.

The Butler County Regional Hazardous Materials is combined effort of this agency and supporting local Butler County governments. The team is specifically trained to respond to any hazardous materials calls for service. Team members are comprised of trained personnel from qualified first responder agencies, including fire, police and other departments..

Hazardous materials can include explosives, flammable and combustible substances, poisons and radioactive materials. Chemical agents are poisonous vapors, aerosols, liquids and solids that have toxic effects on people, animals or plants. Emergencies can happen during the production, storage, transportation, use or disposal of hazardous materials. You are at risk when chemicals are used unsafely or released in harmful amounts where you live, work or play.

What is a Type-1 Hazmat Team?
Type I Teams – Are designed to respond to, assess, and mitigate a large-scale, complex, and sustained-duration incident that may involve multiple hazards comprised of known and/or unknown hazardous materials, and especially including known or suspected weapons of mass destruction (WMD) materials and substances including CWAs.
